This is the initial public release of the Hosted Xen project (kxen).
kxen lets you run the Xen core as a Type-2 VMM, on top of a regular
operating system. This release supports 32-bit Windows XP, Vista and
Win7 as the host operating system. This release uses a snapshot of
the Xen coreused in Citrix's XenServer product. Future releases
will be based on open source xen-3.4 and xen-unstable. This release
is in the form of a snapshot of the latest working sources
(kxen-preview-090323-src.tar.bz2) and an archive of binaries built
from those sources (kxen-preview-090323-windows.zip).

Build instructions:
o The build process downloads a set of distfiles from the webserver
and stores these in the directory pointed to by the environment
variable KXEN_DISTFILES. KXEN_DISTFILES defaults to the folder
distfiles next to the current directory.
o The kxen core and hvmloader can be built on most platforms which
have a toolchain capable of producing i386-elf binaries.
o The windows binaries (ioemu.exe, kxenctl.exe and createimg.exe) can
be built on most platforms using a mingw cross-compile toolchain. A
mingw cross-compile toolchain is built as part of the tools build
  step.
o The windows driver (kxen.sys) needs to be built on Windows using the
Windows Driver Development Kit (DDK), at least version 6001.18001.
o Build steps:
  * Extract source tarball on network share accessible from both the
build host and a windows host
  * On the build host in the top level directory:
    + Type: make tools
    + Type: make all
  * On the windows host, launch a "Windows Vista and Windows Server
2008 x86 Checked Build Environment" and change into the
    windows/kxen.sys directory
    + Type: bcz
  * On the build host in the top level directory:
    + Type: make all
    + Type: make dist
  * The resulting binaries and support files will be present in the
    dist/windows directory.

Install/run instructions:
o Download openvpn-2.0.9 from:
  http://openvpn.net/release/openvpn-2.0.9-install.exe
o Install openvpn-2.0.9:
  * Only the "TAP-Win32 Virtual Ethernet Adapter" component is
    required
o Rename the new network interface to "kxen-tap"
o Configure Internet connection sharing or bridging between the
  network and kxen-tap
o Change the disk and iso image locations at the top of the
  startvm.bat file
o Create an empty disk image:
  * createimg.exe images\testdisk.img 8 1024 1024 1024
(size arguments are multiplied to create an 8GB disk in the above
     example)
o For Vista/Win7 as the host, set ioemu.exe to run as Administrator
  * open ioemu.exe properties
  * on the compatibility tab, select "Run this program as an
    administrator"
o Start the VM by double clicking on the startvm.bat file!
